Eartha Kitt - Frightening Englishmen

Eartha Kitt's singing style combined a distinctive voice and suggestive delivery. As an actress and cabaret performer she could extract maximum value out of the lines of a song, which is in full evidence in this performance of An Englishman Needs Time.

Later blackballed
Dressed for the hunt, Eartha prowls a gentleman's club setting trying to arouse the interest of its crusty members. Against all odds, they refuse to rise to the bait. I suspect she was later blackballed.

  1. Miss Kitt also sung rather seductively in French. I play "Under the Bridges of Paris" with a Mouth Organ Band but get distracted when I think of Miss Kitt singing en Francais "Sous les ponts de Paris".
