Cottonopolis Returns - English Fine Cottons

Cottonopolis 2.0 - Shirting Returns to the Shires

The mission of English Fine Cottons (part of the Culimeta Group) is to bring cotton spinning back to the North West of England, its spiritual home. Tower Mill in Dukinfield, Cheshire, which was built in 1885, has been restored and fitted out with the latest spinning equipment to produce English cotton yarns once more. What a great story. I truly believe that the more people know about the history of where and how things are made, and understand the implicit value of quality, this story will just be one of many. We only have to consider the resurgence of the shoe industry in Northampton.

The aim of English Fine Cottons is to produce 'extraordinarily fine cotton' using high-grade extra long staple cotton such as Sea Island, Indian Suvin and Giza 45.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this investment, not only in the yarn the mill produces, but also how it might serve as a catalyst for growth in cotton manufacturing in the region we used to call Cottonopolis.
