The Corgi Blues

Pocket Square for the Feet

CORGI have some nice colours available in their four-pack Casual Basics range of Welsh-made cotton socks. Some colours are clearly not intended to match with a trouser, but to add a colourful zing, like the turquoise socks you see here. You might think of coloured socks as the trouser equivalent of adding a pocket square to a jacket.

Socks ought to complement what's going on around them. The socks also need to fit the occasion. You may want to tone down the colours at your ankles to project a sober image in your pinstripe work suit, but up the contrast when you're in your weekend tie and sports jacket.
Jeeves lugged my purple socks out of the drawer as if he were a vegetarian fishing a caterpillar out of his salad.

Don't Let Socks Be the Forgotten Man

It's important to remember that socks shouldn't be the forgotten man of your outfit. Hiding socks against a matched trouser leg may be an elegant choice, but it can appear like no thought has been given to the hose, and come across as a little unadventurous. We know you're not like that.

Take a risk occasionally and you may find that you settle on a signature colour of sock. I'd be tempted to do that with these tremendous turquoise socks from Corgi if I wasn't so flighty. The socks have hand-linked toe seams for added comfort and a smoother look.

Add the right colour of sock with the right outfit — even a work suit — and it can really look like you know what you're doing, not least understanding how to get hold of decent socks from the likes of CORGI.
