Hockney's Bigger Book

Gigantic Hockney Book

After David Hockney was added to The Elegant MaleTaschen got in touch to say that they have published a rather large monograph of David Hockney's work.

David Hockney: A Bigger Book is part of the Sumo range of super-sized books from the German art book publisher and gallerists.

The book spans 600 pages printed on an 'an astonishing and immersive scale'. They're not kidding. If you're not mesmerised by David's cardigan in the top photo, you can get a sense of the scale of the book next to him, which would take another chap to lift on to the purpose-built Marc Newsom bookstand that comes with it.

David's work is imbued with optimism and brightness; qualities he applied most famously to the modernist Californian pool paintings such as A Bigger Splash — representing a high-point in British pop art and the theory of California if not the practice.

David collaborated with Taschen to compile this enormous volume, which he has described as a 'visual survey' of his work over six decades.

The book is a limited edition of 9000 copies, all of which are signed by David 'sore wrist' Hockney. A more limited Art Edition that came with a signed print has already sold out.
